  17. SYSTEM COMPATIBILITY
  18.  
  19. Kudo Catalog Reader is a Windows 3.x application that will run under 
  20. Windows 3.1, 3.11, Windows for Workgroups 3.1, 3.11, Windows NT, and 
  21. Windows 95.  With Windows 95 and NT, Kudo Catalog Reader will not 
  22. install OLE files into the system directory; Windows 95 and NT has 
  23. it own advanced OLE file system. Long file names are not supported 
  24. by Kudo yet; although you can view and place images from a long 
  25. file name directory as long as the truncation of the paths and file 
  26. names are unique.
  27.  
  28. Relative Addressing allows anyone with a Reader Addressing:  
  29. to access images or media files if the media files are in the same 
  30. directory as the catalog or in the same path with a different drive 
  31. letter. For example, if the CDROM drive letter changed from D: to 
  32. L:, Kudo Cataloger Reader ( Image Cataloger ) will locate the media 
  33. file and display it or play it!  The same applies to placing images.
  34.  
  35. INSTALLATION
  36.  
  37. This documents all the changes that the Kudo installer makes when 
  38. installing Kudo:
  39.  
  40. *    Application files are copied to the target directory, 
  41.     typically C:\KUDOREAD
  42.  
  43. *    The installer searches for the Microsoft OLE 2.0 DLLs 
  44.     on your machine. Three things can happen as a result 
  45.     of this search:
  46.  
  47.     1)     If they are found (as the result of someone 
  48.         having installed another OLE 2.0 compliant 
  49.         application), and they are of the same or 
  50.         a newer version as the copies that Kudo is 
  51.         shipped with, then nothing is done.  
  52.  
  53.     2)     If they are found but are of an older 
  54.         version than the copies Kudo is shipped with, 
  55.         then the Kudo installer will copy its newer 
  56.         versions over the existing ones, wherever it 
  57.         might find them on your machine.
  58.  
  59.     3)     If they are not found, Kudo places new 
  60.         copies of all the OLE 2.0 DLLs into your 
  61.         WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
  62.  
  63. The OLE 2.0 DLLs are functionally an extension to the 
  64. Windows 3.1 operating system, and so are effectively not a part 
  65. of Kudo at all.  
  66.  
  67. This means that, once installed, they are available for all 
  68. applications that support OLE 2.0, and need not be installed 
  69. more than once.  Other OLE 2.0 compliant applications will 
  70. generally observe this convention, and will not duplicate these 
  71. files in their installation if they are already present.  For 
  72. this reason, if you un-install Kudo, it may be risky to remove 
  73. these files unless you are certain there are not other 
  74. applications that rely on them.  
  75.  
  76. The OLE 2.0 DLLs are:
  77.  
  78.     ole2.dll
  79.     ole2conv.dll
  80.     ole2disp.dll
  81.     ole2nls.dll
  82.     ole2prox.dll
  83.     compobj.dll
  84.     storage.dll
  85.  
  86. *    An additional DLL, BWCC.DLL is installed following an 
  87.     identical procedure to the OLE DLLs.  This file fills a 
  88.     support function and is shipped with many applications.
  89.  
  90. *    The Kudo installer determines if it needs to modify 
  91.     AUTOEXEC.BAT.  You will be prompted before it modifies 
  92.     the file.  If you agree to modification, the line:
  93.     
  94.     SHARE.EXE /L:500 /F:5100
  95.  
  96.     will be added to AUTOEXEC.BAT.  If there is already a 
  97.     line present that loads SHARE, then that line will be 
  98.     modified to ensure that the /L and /F options are at 
  99.     least as large as the amount that Kudo requires.
  100.  
  101. *    The Kudo installer then registers Kudo as an application 
  102.     with Windows, and takes care of registering OLE 2.0 on 
  103.     your machine.  Effectively, this modifies the 
  104.     registration database, REG.DAT, in your windows 
  105.     directory, and indirectly, your WIN.INI file.  It 
  106.     is accomplished by running REGEDIT.EXE with the 
  107.     files OLE2.REG and KUDO.REG, which are installed to 
  108.     your target Kudo directory.  This operation can be 
  109.     repeated manually if REG.DAT ever becomes corrupted, 
  110.     see tech note file "REGEDIT.TXT".
  111.  
  112. *    It is recommended to install the program in 256 
  113.     colors. In some computers, running in more than 256 
  114.     colors during installation may not create or display 
  115.     all the Kudo Browser categories.  
  116.  
  117. *    Please register the program by filling out the 
  118.     REGISTER.TXT information found on the CD. To do this, 
  119.     open the above file name using the Notepad application 
  120.     found in Program Manager. Fill in the appropriate 
  121.     information, then print the registration form. 
  122.

  131. KNOWN INSTALLATION PROBLEMS
  132.  
  133. Two situations have been observed to cause problems with the 
  134. installer:
  135.  
  136. 1)    Installing to a PC that is configured as a diskless 
  137.     workstation can confuse the installer as to the 
  138.     whereabouts of your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.  In this 
  139.     situation, the installer generally cannot access 
  140.     your boot drive.  When the installer attempts to 
  141.     modify your autoexec file, it will probably come up 
  142.     with a path to an AUTOEXEC.BAT that doesn't exist, 
  143.     such as A:\AUTOEXEC.BAT. If this happens, you will 
  144.     need to make the modifications yourself. Select the 
  145.     option to NOT have the Kudo installer modify your 
  146.     autoexec file, and then, after the installation is 
  147.     complete, manually add the line:
  148.     
  149.     <path>\SHARE.EXE /L:500 /F:5100
  150.  
  151.     to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.  <path> is the full path 
  152.     to your DOS directory (or wherever SHARE.EXE exists).  
  153.     The /L & /F options are suggested minimums. If you are 
  154.     already loading SHARE in your autoexec, then you only 
  155.     need to ensure that you add the command line options 
  156.     to the SHARE statement.  If the options are already 
  157.     there, and they are larger, then leave them alone. If 
  158.     they are there but are smaller, then use the values 
  159.     suggested here. You will need to reboot your computer 
  160.     for this change to take effect.
  161.  
  162. 2)    Installing to a network version of Windows can cause 
  163.     problems if the user does not have write privileges 
  164.     to some of the Windows directories. The Kudo installer 
  165.     may need to add some DLL's to your current 
  166.     WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.  This directory will often 
  167.     be on a networked drive that is read-only when you are 
  168.     running a network version of Windows.  You will get 
  169.     messages to the effect of "Can't write to file ... due 
  170.     to read-only protection...", etc. This indicates that 
  171.     you will need to have the network supervisor run the
  172.     installation in supervisor mode to obtain proper 
  173.     write access to the necessary directories.

  175. ====================================
  176. VIEWING IMAGES IN THE KUDO BROWSER
  177. ====================================
  178.  
  179. NOTE: The Kudo Browsers were created for the .BMP format only. 
  180. The images are also in the .WMF format and are identical to those 
  181. in the .BMP format. When viewing the Kudo Browser you will find 
  182. the following categories: Borders, Corners. These categories were 
  183. placed in the browser for viewing the images. It is recommended, 
  184. however, to use these categories  in the .WMF format instead 
  185. for better resolution and resizing capabilities. To go to the .WMF 
  186. images click on the Content folder next click on the .WMF 
  187. subdirectory.

  195. CONSENTING TO BE BOUND BY AND ARE BECOMING A PARTY TO THIS

  197. AGREEMENT,  CLICK THE " No " BUTTON AND THE INSTALLER 
  198. WILL QUIT GRANT.

  200. Imspace Systems Corporation ("Imspace") hereby grants you a 
  201. non-exclusive license to use its accompanying software product 
  202. ("Software") free of charge if

  204. (a) you do not try to sell, modify, or otherwise alter the 
  205. software in any way;

  208.  
  209. (b) all documentation is included with the distribution of this 
  210. software product. If you fit within the above description, 
  211. you may: use the Software on any computer; you may copy the 
  212. Software for archival purposes, provided any copy contain all of 
  213. the original Software's proprietary notices. You may not: permit 
  214. other individuals to use the Software except under the terms listed 
  215. above; modify, translate, reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble

  228. through the Software is the property of the applicable content 
  229. owner and may be protected by applicable copyright or other law. 
  230. This License gives you no rights to such content.

  232. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTY. 
  233. The Software is provided on an "AS IS" basis, without warranty 
  234. of any kind, including without limitation the warranties of 
  235. merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and 
  236. non-infringement. The entire risk as to the quality and
  237. performance of the Software is borne by you. Should the Software
  238. prove defective, you and not Imspace assume the entire cost of any 
  239. service and repair. In addition, the security mechanism implemented 
  240. by the Software has inherent limitations, and you must determine

  242. disclaimer of warranty constitutes an essential part of the

  263. with the limitations described above.  On termination, you must 
  264. destroy all copies of the Software. EXPORT CONTROLS.  None of the 
  265. Software or underlying information or technology may be 
  266. downloaded or otherwise exported or reexported (i) into (or to a 
  267. national or resident of) Cuba, Iraq, Libya, Yugoslavia, North Korea, 
  268. Iran, Syria or any other country to which the U.S. has embargoed 
  269. goods; or (ii) to anyone on the U.S. Treasury Department's list 
  270. of Specially Designated Nationals or the U.S.  Commerce 
  271. Department's Table of  Deny Orders. By downloading  or using 
  272. the Software, you are agreeing to the foregoing and you are 
  273. representing and warranting that you are not located in, under the 
  274. control of, or a national or resident of any such country or on any 
  275. such list.

  278. This Agreement represents the complete agreement concerning 
  279. this license between the parties and supersedes all prior agreements 
  280. and representations between them. It may be amended only by a 
  281. writing executed by both parties. If any provision of this 
  282. Agreement is held to be unenforceable for any reason, such 
  283. provision shall be reformed only to the extent necessary to make 
  284. it enforceable.  This Agreement shall be governed by and construed 
  285. under California law as such law applies to agreements between 
  286. California residents entered into and to be performed within 
  287. California, except as governed by Federal law. The application the 
  288. United Nations Convention of Contracts for the International Sale 
  289. of Goods is expressly excluded.

  396. warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose are 
  397. limited in duration to the period of 90 days from the date of purchase.
